I woke up on the beach, I have no idea who I am, or how I got there, or exactly where I am. I only have the clothes on my back, which includes a couple of pistols, and not much else. Where did I come from? Why was I wearing guns? I have flashbacks of what I can only describe as silver glass mountains. None of this makes any sense to me.
I was rescued from the beach by this tall native woman. She pulled me out of the water just in time to prevent me from being a croc's lunch. She shared her food and water with me and is teaching me how to hunt and fish. There seems to be something different about this one. One day I woke up and I think she was drawing on my forehead, not sure, maybe I imagined it.
DAY 36: Recently while fishing I found several strange boxes with my name on them. I opened one and found some very interesting things inside. I am almost afraid to open the others.
DAY 52: I opened the box with the red panel today. There was something labeled "retrieval transponder". It seems to need a code to activate it. Also were a bunch of folders with pictures, names, and a lot of writing. Some seems to be in code, but I did make out words like brainwash, implant, experimental, and agent. One of the pictures is of the native girl that rescued me, but the names do not match. And I recognize some of the others as well. I really don't understand what it all means...
Day 62: I Found this box inside one of the crates I rescued from the beach. I removed the biohazard sticker from it and put it outside camp where I can keep an eye on it. It seems to be almost dissolving. I have also started getting random blackouts, or missing time. Some of the vials seem to be missing, they could be anywhere..
Day 79: The journals and folders make more sense every day, but, I think Diedra has been paying a little to close attention to the contents of the boxes. She is very curious. I have also noticed a number of people lurking around near camp. I am concerned that they may kidnap Diedra and try to get information out of her. She does not have any, which could be even worse for her..
Day 123: More of the crates with my name on them keep washing up on shore. I am up at all hours of the day and night searching for them so they are not found by anyone else. One of them had broken open and most of the contents had spilled out. More of my memory returns everyday, it is difficult to hide it. I am still not exactly sure what is going on. The more things I start to remember the more suspicious Diedra becomes.. She is smart for a native girl. Maybe too smart. One of the scanners says positive when I scan Diedra, but I told her nothing was wrong.
Day 232: I found more crates today. In one of them was what I now know is my laptop. As soon as I activated it a flood of pictures and thoughts entered my mind. It is almost as if we are connected in some way. I have learned much more about why I am here, but there are some big gaps. I can't seem to collect the spilled vials fast enough, more and more of the population is becoming infected. If I can't contain this...
Day 250:: Today I found more crates. Satellite dish, medical equipment. and a whole list of other items. When I connected the satellite receiver to my workstation it was like someone turned a light on. I see everything so much more clearly now. I have a direct link to the company mainframe. I have setup a makeshift lab in an abandoned shack so I can do my work and maybe finally complete my mission.
1478436236: Wow, these natives and their herbs. I drank something that I thought was coffee, but trying to explain that to a native, well, lets just say I drank it and woke up the next morning naked, chained in my lab. That last thing I remember was talking to Diedra. I think I may have revealed more that I wanted to. She seems to be acting different. I think she has started to regain some pre-accident memories. The corporation was very interested by this new development and thinks I should keep a close eye on her.
1478444435: I have learned a lot more about the virus. The nano-virus lives behind the right eye and controls behavior and brain chemistry. It simulates a great number of the same functions as the lateral orbitofrontal cortex as well as periaqueductal gray area. If we remember our biology classes, the lateral orbitofrontal cortex, the brain region behind the left eye, shuts down during an orgasm. Also, periaqueductal gray (PAG), the part of the brain that controls the fight-or-flight response, is activated when a woman has sex. The PAG is not activated in men when they reach an orgasm. Moreover, women will experience a decrease in the amygdala and hippocampus, which help monitor fear and anxiety. I need take blood samples during the periods of lateral orbitofrontal cortex shutdown to fully understand how to control this virus. I need to take samples from both men and women to determine if there is a link to the levels of oxytocin and testosterone in the infection rates of the male vs female population.
1478445539: As much as I have tried, I just can not get reliable results when stimulating the lateral orbitofrontal cortex shutdown "the old fashioned way", so I will have to switch to using mechanical assistance. At least in this way I can get reliable results. When I reported how many tries it took to get a viable sample from Diedra, two of the board members just nodded, two made notes and ran out of the room, and one burst into laughter before regaining his composure. I am not sure what that is all about. .What are they hiding from me? How much of my memory is still missing?
1478446150: Although I can not really prove anything, I think someone has been using the lab when I am not here.. Things out of place, a few missing items. Maybe I am just being forgetful and misplacing things.. Maybe I have been in the jungle too long.

1478968807: Both Diedra and Amanda have agreed to help me collect samples from the male population. However neither one of them have turned in any samples. While there seems to be no shortage of uninfected males. I have yet to find an infected male. I am therefore going to take matters into my own hands. I have loaded one of my syringes with the virus, and will be infecting targeted strong healthy males.
1479248565: Best discovery ever today. I found my pants.
1479377370: Diedra brought me a sample today. A sperm sample. When I finished laughing I told her I hope she enjoyed it, but while she collected it at the correct time, what I really needed was a blood sample. I am beginning to think she has her own agenda and do not quite trust her.
1479377558: My computer has reported at least one infection among the male population. A guard, This is an interesting new development.
1479421296: I had another break in today. From the look of the lab I thought it may have been an animal, but the fresh tool marks on the lock meant it must have been human. My research papers were strewn all over and there were little sticky fingerprints on everything. It took me hours to get everything cleaned up and back where it was supposed to be. One set of my surgical instruments seem to have gone missing, I have spares, but they are very sharp. I hope who ever took them does not get hurt.
1479640349: I think the virus may have mutated. I am detecting multiple infections among the male population.
1479640584: I am reasonably sure that Diedra and Amanda are spies, or possibly the ones who sabotaged the ship on the way here. I have bribed some of their closest allies to keep them occupied, but I don't trust them either.
1479650331: While cleaning up the lab today I picked up the "sample" Diedra collected. Just as I was about to toss it in the hazardous waste bin I notices it seemed to have a metallic sheen to it. Out of curiosity I put it under the microscope for a closer inspection. I was shocked to discover that the sample was full of nano-bots. It would seem that they have altered their programming and have added a new infection vector. It now seems to be, at least in some of the victims, a sexually transmitted disease. I have decided to keep this bit of information from the main office for fear that they will implement sterilization procedures before I have completed my mission here.
1479651819: Virus symptomatology: The infected victims exhibit a strange set of symptoms. They seem to exhibit impaired decision making process along with a skewed flight or fight response. It is really difficult to pinpoint here, as a number of the people here exhibit those symptoms naturally. Probably the two most striking symptoms are a tendency to be drawn to the lab. I think the nano-bots may be drawn to my computer somehow. Also it an almost total suggestibility to any thing I say. There seem to be limits, but I am not exactly how or why they are there. The short version is that the virus tends to make you slutty and want to pick fights, either gender.
1479652997: Due to a failure of a number of collection attempts, I have established the following guidelines for sample collection.
- Blood samples only. Other fluids are unnecessary at this time.
- Timing is critical, the stages are buildup, tension, release, and relax. The sample must be collected after the buildup-tension period and during the tension release-crossover, but before the relaxation period. Practice makes perfect.
- Record the date, time, and subject name, and if possible collect a picture during collection for record keeping purposes.
1480163615: Diedra reported that I may not be sterile as I had believed.
1480169873: [REDACTED]
1480549405: Had a run in with one of the "guards". Or in this particular case, bad jungle cop. Diedra and I walking the beach searching for Vials that might have washed ashore, when we came across him, and his girlfriend, or deputy, well, the way his was frisking her, probably girlfriend. Of course our interruption started full Sheriff mode, with questions, torturing, threats. the bright lights and rubber, uh, well, lets say hoses. All in all great fun. Really gives the Turkish prisons a run for their money.. You know, it is usually bad business to cap the local cops, but sometimes it is so tempting.
1481202396: Due to the numerous break-ins I have removed the subject information from these logs and the computer and locked it away. Along with other valuable objects.
1481203758: I "stumbled" across some company documents on the corporate mainframe. Either I solve this puzzle soon or they will come in and capture what they can, and burn down the rest, just to be sure.
1481300000: I used to hate spies, probably killed hundreds, but now, I am beginning to see their usefulness. While I was fishing with Diedra yesterday one of the "will work for food" crowd passed me a very interesting packet of collected information titled "Igloos of the West". It was very informative reading.
1481308011: Usually when I sleep I have strange dreams. Probably due to my connection to the corporate mainframe. This morning something was different. I awakened by a sharp pain shooting through my head and the words "All restrictions released", then the pain was gone. The connection to the computer is stronger. I feel better, much better. I think this is going to be a good week.
1482156341: Some people are actively trying to stop my research. I am seriously considering just letting it all burn.
1482157268: It seems as if the infected are starting to become disoriented and easily lost. ((going to start disabling mini-maps of the infected when they get close.)).
1482847768: There are a number of rival factions in this area that spend most of their time attacking and capturing each other. Bad for them, good for me. I have decided to start purchasing captives from any faction. I can then use them for my tests, and then either keep them as assistants, if they are bright enough, or re-sell them to make my coin back. Hopefully this will help speed up the process of finding a solution to this puzzle.
1483463284: I met a man today who claimed to be a Nigerian prince. He tells me that there is some unrest in his country, and he needs my assistance in moving a large about of cash out of the country. It seems all he needs is a little cash for some documents and bribes. This has the potential to make me a lot of money. I don't need the money, I will donate it to charity, I just want to help.
1483879583: Every day I find fewer and fewer virus canisters washing up on the beach and floating down the rivers, I think this is probably a good thing.
1483879715: You know how sometimes it seems you are making good progress toward a goal only to have someone or something toss a wrench into the machinery, well, it looks like I am the recipient of such a blessing. Today while I was doing my morning Tai-Chi, trying to get my Zen on, I was bitten by an insect. Of course I slapped it and turned it into a goo splatter on my arm. As I was preparing to wipe the mess from my arm I noted the telltale metallic sheen. After putting the remains under the microscope I discover my worst fears have come true. What appeared to be an insect, was, at most 60% insect. The nano-virus seems to have completely replaced the other 40%. Now, not only do I have to identify a cure for the infected, now I also have to come up with some kind of robo-bug spray.
1484063289: I have a tribe that lives really close to where I have the lab setup. Some of its members are infected. Their leader is a guy named Blake, met him once, seems nice enough. Interesting character, all he is missing is a puka-shell necklace and a surfboard to match is platinum blond hair and the picture would be complete. I am not sure what goes on over there, but I see people coming and going at all hours of the day and night. If he were in the city I would say Blake is a drug dealer or a pimp. it is less likely, but still. When I get a hold of one of his members for testing I think I will ask them about it. OK, maybe ask is a little too nice for what I have planned.
1485288754: I had a little run in with the wombasi the other day. They really are not fond of me. It would seem that one of the infected insects bit her. As I was traveling past, she stood up and tried to follow me. this did not please her companion at all. He shot a few arrows in my direction but I managed to avoid them and get away. I will say one thing about the wambasi, they are curious and have little fear. They showed up at the lab the next day and demanded an explanation, and a cure. I did my best at an explanation and then injected the girl with one of the syringes laying around. I expect I will see them return sooner or later.
1486925405: I have had a few interesting experiences in the last few weeks. A few days ago after I dropped off some salt at the protectors camp, and was talking to the commander, two men broke in and started shooting. The next thing I remember was falling from the sky in to the swamp. As I was heading back to the lab to get a first aid kit I found Diedra's lifeless body floating in the river.. I hauled the body back to the lab and patched it up the best I could. When I woke up several hours later she seemed fine with no ill effects.
1486927754: I know I am probably going to regret this but I have more or less put the dread pirate Soul and his Pet on retainer to collect specimens for me. Well, I guess I have done worse, and may still. So far the arrangement is working out ok.
1487426498: Sometimes the missing bits of time and memory really make me look like an idiot. A few days ago I was discussing my work with one of the wandering lost and she asked "Where is the anti-virus, you know you always make a anti-virus when you make these things". Face-palm, Of course you do. I remember seeing something that could have contained the anti-virus. More like flashes of memory, but a smaller metal box, on the ship, before it sank. I think I probably should do a little diving and see what I can find.
1487669767: This was an interesting day all around. First thing in the morning a hunter from one of the local groups walked into the lab and knocked me out. No hi, bye, kiss my ass, nothing, just walked in and knocked me out. When I woke up I was being dragged across the jungle. When we arrived at the cave where this group is holed up I was chained to a post and there was much discussion about what to do with me. The one that captured me left, and the ones that remained seem to think they had found a new play toy. One of them chained me up and was starting to use me as a new art project. Just as she was about to get a very big surprise everything went black and I was back at the lab.
1487670298: A new variant of the virus showed up on the scanner today. It seems to have the same basic structure, but this one is sending back a number of conflicting messages and does not seem to answer to the command and control signals. This is very interesting. I must make a point to locate this one and collect the necessary samples.
1491055704: A Wari warrior showed up this morning. Wanted to know about my evil practices, accused me of cutting up natives into pieces, the usual types of things. I tried to explain my work here, but she did not understand. She left, but only for a while. A few hours later she returned with another, weapons drawn. I tried to explain, but they were not there to talk. When I woke up I was being pushed into a cage.
I spent many many hours in the cage, trying to convince the Chief and members of the tribe that I was harmless, but they were having no part of that.. I sat to wait it out. Luckily while everyone was at tribal council or something trying to decide my fate one of the infected came into range and was compelled to find and release me.
1491827020: I had a long discussion with the Wari Chief. He seems to be smarter than most. We agreed to a mutual non-aggression pact, as long as he gets to use my lab. He also dumped another white woman on me. Helps him, helps the jungle, helps me. A win all around.
1492252781: This afternoon while I was out fishing a couple of what might have been native women, slipped into the lab. The were expecting trouble as they capped me as soon as I walked in the door. They even tried to set fire to the lab. I was kind of amazed that they did not see Diedra putting the fires out as fast as they were setting them. But then again they did not appear too bright. They pushed me in to one of my own cages and forced me to strip. They seemed a little confused, almost like they had never seen a man before. They jabbered to each other in some native language for a while and then let me go. The whole thing was very strange.
1493239398: After the events of the last few weeks, I did what I had to do and called in a friend to help. He arrived today with supplies and his typical attitude. This should be interesting.
1494621298: I have not been feeling well lately. I think it may be that woman Amanda. I think she is poisoning me. Every time she is gone I feel strange. Every time she is here I feel stranger..
1494695852: That red headed nut-job has been quite active lately. I really think she has been out in the sun way too long. She has been tripping through the jungle with what looks like some rohipnhol/pentathol combination asking a lot of questions.
1495002072:: Well, now this is an interesting turn. It appears that Brandi finally made it around to Diedra. She was there for an unusually long time. Judging from what I have heard, Diedra is not going to even know she was there. That is Ok, Diedra doesn't remember anything it would seem. I think either the bugs fried her mind or she is hiding inside it, and I don't really blame her either way.
1495102031: It has been weirdly quiet lately. That woman Amanda has been a pleasant distraction. I find myself strangely attracted to her. I kind of asked her to stay around for no reason. I really hope she decides to hang around for a while. I would like that.
1495302072: Last night I went to check on a noise coming from Brandi's tent… That is the last thing I remember before waking up face down in he tent and my head hurts. I stumble down to the lab and find the box, hooked to my computer, and it appears that a large amount of data has been transferred. There are coded instructions being send to everyone headsets. Prisoner transfer? Patient outreach? Well, and this last one, fuck..
1495543214: It has taken me a few days to to wrap my head around everything that has happened over the last couple of weeks. Many things have changed. As soon as Brandi and Suave hooked the box up to my computer it immediately took control and uploaded all of the research data to the corporate mainframe. Something I had been trying to avoid.
upon reception of the data the mainframe issued the controlled shutdown sequence, causing the box to emit a TDM coded EMP. This has resulted in the shutdown of all of the Nano-bots that were not protected by a few centimeters of skin. Although I do still have a few of the originals in protective containment. So, my plans are not totally wiped out.
The corporation has declared the "unscheduled testing" (also known as the coup attempt and shipwreck) an exceptional success, especially with all of the extra data. They have however concluded that this is probably the best place for the remaining living subjects. Toward that end they have setup a data collection station and disguised it as a "Victim outreach center" offering cures to anyone who wants it. As I suspected, once infected the victim adapts to their new lifestyle and is not really interested in being "cured". But this will be a good way to track the infected.
The corporation has put Suave in charge of the "victim outreach center." And in his usual flair has added his own special service offerings. They have also decided that this would be a good place to dump any other persons interfering with the Corporate Mission. An unregulated corporate prison. Now that they have a technology where they don't have to worry about medical care for prisoners, and the side effects are considered trivial in this circumstance. Then again, they never had to deal with the infected..
I have decided to stay on for a while and help Suave, he is going to have his hands full.
